Being the leader of an organization means having ultimate responsibility for crafting the vision and mission of your company. A strong leader moves the company forward. You know where you are going and have a plan to get there – being proactive, instead of reactive. You will need to lead with a purpose, commit yourself to the mission and even more importantly, share the mission with all your staff, vendors and strategic partners.
The focus of leadership activity needs to be on the big decisions that grow the company – not administrative and daily tasks. Creating sound operational, managerial and financial strategies that are clear and can be implemented in detail, good leaders are able to break down work into manageable steps and make the progress desired.
Do you recall the familiar saying, going to work on your business, not in it? A strong leader drives effectiveness and builds the business. As an entrepreneur, one of your primary goals is to mature your business and operations to the level at which your business could operate without you. For this to happen you must inspire, empower and grow your employees to achieve their own dreams along with yours. Capitalizing on the unique motivation within each individual can be hard but rewarding work.
Communicating dedication and passion, a strong leader is a role model, mentor and coach for their staff. Good leadership creates a trust based environment; people come first as the keys to success. There is open and honest communication and a shared vision for the company, product or service and the customer.
Letting go of the duties that keep you working in the business requires you to build your people’s skills to become decision makers and accountable in their own right. By developing leadership skills in others, good leaders are able to keep moving ahead by inspiring others to set and achieve goals.
